As it reboots its brand in the U.S., Japanese developer Sunsoft is bolstering its catalog with the acquisition of all rights to games from defunct 8 and 16-bit developer Nihon Telenet. Nihon Telenet was known for the Valis and Cosmic Fantasy series, as well as titles like Exile and Earnest Evans. Sunsoft says it will first publish the original titles via the Wii’s virtual console and “other platforms,” and then will start work developing remakes …
Details on Nintendo’s next Zelda title for the Wii have been few and far between. Fans eager to find out what is in store for Link in his next adventure have little more than ambiguous quotes and a single piece of artwork to go on. It wouldn’t surprise me if Nintendo remains tight-lipped until the game sees its formal debut at E3.
Until then, game director Eiji Aonuma has a few more vague details – go figure – that will surely send fans into an analyzing frenzy.
“With Twilight Princess, we challenged ourself to create the most vast and realistic world the series had ever seen, but we don’t feel that we were able to fully complete this objective. With that as a starting point for our improvements to the series in the future, we are of course working on a new game for Wii.”
“For any game to be remembered for a long time, just like Ocarina of Time was, the game must give the strong impression that it has set a new starting point for future sequels to build upon. We are working to further improve upon the experiences found in Twilight Princess so that our future games can realize these innovations,” Aonuma told IGN.
Perhaps, Twilight Princess is to Ocarina of Time, as the new Zelda title is to… Majora’s Mask?
Let the speculation begin.
Considering Spike is the official network of the Ultimate Fighting Championship, you knew that they couldn’t have the Video Game Awards without mentioning the new UFC game. And indeed, that seems to be the case, as it’s been announced that the newly-announced UFC Undisputed 2010 will be officially unveiled at the 2009 VGAs.

Of course, this game will likely go head-to-head with EA Sports MMA, also set for a 2010 release, making for a sure war for next year. Now, let’s just hope that they don’t have LL Cool J dancing along with UFC fighters as they show off the game, like they did last year.

[Update: First week NSMBW sales top one million]
New Super Mario Bros. Wii has made an impressive start in Japan, shifting 422,000 copies during its first 24 hours of availability.
Marvelous Interactive shocked many Nintendo fanboys when it was announced that they would be porting the Wii classic No More Heroes to the PS3 and Xbox 360 in No More Heroes: Heroes’ Paradise. Now, we get the game’s first trailer.
Interestingly enough, the trailer reveals that feelPlus, best-known for their work on the 360-exclusive RPG Lost Odyssey, will be handling development of the port. The game will also apparently feature Japanese voiceovers, eschewing the all-English voice tracks of the original.
The game is set for release in Japan this February. We’ll keep you abreast (sorry) if Ubisoft decides to bring this to the States.
Gamasutra’s weekly column, “Saling The World”, covers the top five sellers for every available platform in the United States, Japan, and Europe, providing an important update of sales patterns worldwide. This week’s charts, with data taken from December 3rd, 2009, find New Super Mario Bros. Wii and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 leading holiday sales in North America, as Phantasy Star Portable 2 heads multiplatform results in Japan. Data for “Saling The World” comes …
If you’ve been on Amazon recently, you would have noticed that many game prices have been slashed for the holidays. Wal-Mart wants to jump on the bandwagon, apparently. From now until Christmas Eve (December 24), the following games are receiving price cuts:
Mario & Sonic at the Winter Olympics (Wii) – $40
Lego Rock Band (Wii) – $40
Rock Band: Beatles (Wii) – $40
MySims: Agents (Wii) – $40
Tekken 6 (Xbox 360 and PS3) – $50
Madden 2010 (Xbox 360 and PS3) – $50
WWE 2010 (Xbox 360) – now $50, WWE 2010 (Wii) – $40
Batman Arkham Asylum (Xbox 360) – $50
Dragon Age: Origins (PS3) – $50
Left 4 Dead 2 (Xbox 360) – $50
Halo 3:ODST (Xbox 360) – $50
Uncharted 2 (PS3) – $50
In addition, from December 5-12, you’ll score a $50 Walmart gift card when you purchase a Nintendo Wii system. It’s likely that Amazon will respond to Walmart’s actions by giving consumers even better deals, making the cycle continue to spur throughout the holidays.
It’s kind of funny, in a way. In the upcoming Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars, a game about pairing some of the greatest of Capcom’s mighty heroes into teams against some of the finest superstars of Tatsunoko, there is one match-up in particular which I am quite looking forward to, and it doesn’t involve any team pairing at all.
That battle is, of course, the mighty Great Lightan against the PTX-40A “Hardballer” from Lost Planet, touted as “the finest Vital Suit ever produced.” And in addition to artwork of both mighty mecha now decorating our gallery, Capcom has provided videos of the two in action, showing off some new moves they didn’t have in the previous version of the title.

“Oh, you’ve got to be kidding!” What an apt reaction.
You know, for a guy who transforms into a gold lighter, I really expected more in the way of flame attacks and fireballs, rather than the sort of bursting punches he seemed to have going on.
Next, it’s time to get Lost.
Nintendo says American consumers bought more than 1 million units of its Nintendo DS and DSi portable consoles during the week of the Thanksgiving holiday, along with more than half a million Wii consoles. The company’s sales numbers apply to the period from Sunday, November 22 to Saturday, November 28, which encompasses the legendary post-Thanksgiving shopping day “Black Friday.” The figures come from Nintendo’s own “internal tracking numbers” rather than an outside firm such as …

I always tend to overestimate how much gaming I can get done in a given amount of time. As such, I didn’t get to play much of what I had planned for yesterday. I did get to beat the 3 main cups in Super Mario Kart, though.
This weekend, I’ll be playing more WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2010, might manage to get some fun with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles* IV: Turtles in Time in there, and I’d like to sit down with Metroid Prime Trilogy for a bit. And around all that, I wouldn’t be surprised if the wife and I take up New Super Mario Bros. Wii and grab some more Star Coins and find some more exits.
How much of this actually gets done remains to be seen.
So, those are my games this weekend; what are yours?
* Oh, and a quick reminder to those interested: CW4Kids had Turtles Forever on last week, but if you missed it, they’re airing it in parts over the next three Saturdays, starting tomorrow. Everyone’s been raving about it, so if you’re a fan (even a former fan) of the TMNT, be sure not to miss it!
This is why it’s a bad idea to have your games shipped to a friend’s house… or an excellent idea to have your friends ship their games to your house, take your pick.
Warning, non-worksafe language is employed here, as one might imagine:

I must admit, all said, he took it better than I probably would have.
I’ll also admit that with all the hamming for the camera– and the presence of the camera itself– I have to question the legitimacy of it. Still, it’s a fun diversion to watch, either way.
